Men's Golf
OAHU, Hawaii - The Mississippi State men's golf team concluded play Wednesday at the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, finishing in 12th place. Playing at the par-72 Fazio course, the Bulldogs fired a score of 869 for a 5-over-par performance.

Mississippi State's top finisher in the event was Matt Fast. Fast shot a three-round score of 212, and finished at 4-under-par. The senior started off the tournament with a 1-over-par performance and improved every round. Fast fired a 2-under-par mark in the second round followed by a 3-under-par in the final round guiding Fast to a tie for 14th in the individual field. The 14th-place finish is the best this season for the Hattiesburg, Miss., native.

Senior Josh Bevell shot a 1-over-par with rounds of 71 and 76 after the first two rounds of play. He then fired a 2-under-par 70 on the final day to finish in a tie for 36th. Noah Goldman tied for 60th with a three day total of 222. Carlos Sainz, Jr. finished at 224 and in a tie for 74th with fellow Bulldog Brian Mason also posting a three-round score of 224.

Senior Logan Young played as an individual and his three round score of 229 did not count towards the team score.

MSU will begin spring play at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on February 14.

Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State women's basketball team will open its 2008-09 slate Thursday night when they play host to Peach State Elite, a traveling team of former collegiate players. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Humphrey Coliseum and admission is free.

Led by head coach Sharon Fanning who is in her 14th season at MSU, State returns 10 letterwinners, including four starters from last season's WNIT squad. The top seven of eight scorers return for the Lady Bulldogs this season including junior Alexis Rack who averaged 11.5 points a contest last season. Also returning is junior Tysheka Grimes who led State with 205 rebounds a year ago.

Seniors Robin Porter, Donnisha Tate, Lauren Roberts, juniors Bethany Washington and Channa Campbell, along with sophomores Mary Kathryn Govero (Freshman All-SEC selection) and Danielle Rector all return this season. A starter in all 30 games last season, senior point guard Marneshia Richard will begin the season off the court with a knee injury.

The Lady Bulldogs added four newcomers this season including JUCO All-Americans Chanel Mokango and Armelie Lumanu. Also in their first year with the program is JUCO transfer Rima Kolanda and a freshman All-State performer from Pontotoc, Miss., in Diamber Johnson.

Mississippi State is the last stop for Peach State Elite's six-game tour through the Southeast. The team has played contest against Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech in the last two weeks.

The Lady Bulldogs will officially open their 35th season of basketball on Tuesday, Nov. 18 when they play host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Game time at the Humphrey Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. CT.
