Well, tell us about your stats - height, weight, 40 time etc.
"I'm 6-6, 255, and I run a 4.8 in the 40." (As timed by his HS coach)
How long has Mississippi State been recruiting you?
"I guess maybe since the spring game last year."
That long, huh? What kind of year did you have this past season?
"I had a pretty good year. I caught a bunch of passes. My last game was the first time I actually got to score, since we didn't throw the ball that much around the goal line. But I ran a 88 yard touchdown."
You must have pretty good speed to run one 88 yards.
"Yeah, it's pretty good. I also made the (academy) all-star team this year." (They played their game in Clinton, Mississippi on December 6th.-Gene)
That's great. Did you play any other positions?
"I played tight end and defensive line."
But you are projected as a tight end in college?
What other schools are recruiting you?
"Princeton is looking at me, and another Ivy League school, Dartmouth. And USM."
What coach is recruiting you from MSU?
Out of those schools that are recruiting you, have any of them offered a scholarship?
"Well, I haven't really gotten an offer from Princeton, but if I can pull my ACT score up 2 points I think they will offer." (Other schools are still evaluating Austin at this point)
Out of those schools that are recruiting you, do you have a favorite?
"Well, I'm not going to lie to you, I like Mississippi State a lot. I've always liked State. Plus, I'm looking for a college that has an engineering program because that's what I plan on majoring in. State is one of the top ones and it's so close. So it's Mississippi State over USM because of the engineering program."
Have you scheduled any visits yet?
"No, I haven't yet. But I plan on scheduling one."
Thanks a lot for your time and I may be calling back after your visit to see how things are going.
"Sounds good. Thanks."
