[Premium Article] Gene's Page recently interviewed defensive end JJ Grant (6-4, 255) of Butler County CC. JJ, an MSU commitment, is considered one of the top defensive ends in the juco ranks. I know you are committed to MSU but I know you are probably still receiving phone calls. What schools are calling?
"Oklahoma has called. Tennessee, Memphis, Southern Miss. There's a lot of other schools that have called but I tell them that I want to go to Mississippi State. I don't want to waste their time."

Have you received any in-home visits?
"Coach (Jackie) Sherrill and Coach (Glenn) Davis are coming to my house when I get home."

Have you set up any official visits?
"I don't know if I will take any official visits to any of the other schools but I talked to Coach Davis about coming (to Mississippi State) the last week in January."

I know State has had a long standing scholarship offer extended to you. Have any of the other schools offered you a scholarship?
"Yeah, they have offered."

What schools have offered?
"Oklahoma, Memphis and Tennessee. Southern Miss has talked to me."

Obviously, you must have had a pretty good year to get so many schools interested in you. How did you do this past season?
"I had 65 tackles overall and 13.5 sacks. I did that in nine games." [3 of his sacks were against Dodge City CC offensive lineman Woodley Telford. Woodley is considered one of the top OL prospects in the junior college ranks.-Gene]

Are schools recruiting you as a defensive end or a linebacker?
"Defensive end."

When will you be graduating from junior college?
"I'm going to get out in May."

Has the coaching staff changes affected your feelings toward Mississippi State?
"Not really. I know Coach Sherrill will do a good job of bringing in other guys, but I kind of wanted to play for Joe Lee Dunn."

Thanks for talking with me, J.J. Bye, bye.
"Alright, bye, bye."
