STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State junior Chelsea Bramlett was named preseason All-SEC catcher by a vote of the Southeastern Conference coaches, the league office announced Tuesday.
Bramlett, who earned the honor for the second straight season, earned first team All-SEC catcher honors a year ago after tallying the program's second-highest single-season batting average (.450). Bramlett also added three doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs, 52 runs and 25 RBIs en route to claiming first team all-America honors for the second straight season and the NFCA/Diamond Sports Division I Catcher of the Year award.
"This award shows just how much respect coaches around the SEC have Chelsea," MSU head coach Jay Miller said. "Coaches in the league realize the quality of athletes we have here at Mississippi State, and this is a great honor for Chelsea as we get ready to start the SEC season."
Bramlett matched her single-season stolen base record in 2008, swiping 46 bases - including a nation's fifth-best 0.77 per game - as the Bulldogs marched to a 41-22 record and the program's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance.
State opens the 2009 season Feb. 6-8, welcoming Iona, Kennesaw State and Louisiana-Monroe to the MSU Softball Field for the Bulldog Round-Robin. Admission to all MState home softball games is free.
