Holcombe Suspended From Bulldog Team

Dawgs' Bite has learned that Jacquiese Holcombe has been placed under suspension by Coach Rick Stansbury. The Mississippi State coach confirmed Wednesday morning that the junior forward is "currently suspended from the basketball team, and that is all I will comment about this at this time."

Coach Stansbury did not say why Holcombe has been suspended, the length, or what it specifically involves; whether from practices, dressing out for games, or other areas of team participation.

Holcombe is not currently playing for the Bulldogs, sidelined by nagging after-effects from surgery to repair an injured foot prior to the season. The rod and screws inserted in the bones have caused irritation and slowed the junior to the point that Mississippi State had already agreed to end his year early and let him apply for a medical redshirt. Holcombe has not played since the Cincinnati game on December 18, and participated in seven games for a total of 83 minutes.

In those games he scored 21 points with 14 rebounds before the irritation became too painful for him to continue December action.

Holcombe signed with Mississippi State out of Georgia Perimeter College after averaging 13.4 points and 7.3 rebounds last season at the Decatur, Ga., school and was the Region 17 Player of the Year.
