As for highlights, in McKenzie's mind the entire visit was special.
"The highlight was how they made everything real special, how they made it exciting for you," said McKenzie. "The whole thing was special."
Although his trip was interrupted by Starkville Academy basketball games Friday night and Saturday night, he still had the chance to spend a little time with the coach who will be coaching him when he gets to Mississippi State.
"I met with (defensive line) Coach (David) Turner and (recruiting) Coach (Rockey) Felker," said McKenzie. "They want to start me out at defensive end."
But before that happens, he has a little something that needs to be taken care of this coming Wednesday.
"(On signing day) we are going to go into the (Starkville Academy) gym that morning and maybe have my football teammates and my coaches there and sign in front of them," said McKenzie.
Johnathan is not the first member in his family that will have put on the maroon and white. His dad, Duncan McKenzie, who played at State and currently works in the MSU athletic department, has that honor. Both are excited about Johnathan signing with State, but one maybe a little more than the other.
"He's already been through it before, so I think I'm more excited," said McKenzie with a laugh.
