Decision Date Approaches for Lewis

The spring signing period is rapidly approaching and one of the top basketball prospects still on the board is Selma, Alabama standout Wendell Lewis. Rumors ran rampant on Friday that Lewis had already made his college decision and would be announcing his decision soon. We were able to catch up with Wendell Friday evening to get the truth of the matter from the player himself.

"I haven't made up my mind yet," said Lewis. "I am going to do it sometime soon. I think like a week before the signing period."

The spring signing period begins April 16th, so if Wendell's time frame holds true the next ten days or so should produce a decision.

Several schools have shown interest in signing the talented Lewis.

"Auburn, Mississippi State, Western Kentucky, MTSU, Jacksonville in Florida, Alabama State, Ole Miss and a couple of other schools have offered me," said Wendell. "Ole Miss just started talking to me like yesterday and they offered me then."

The 6-8, 220 pounder reports a final three of Auburn, Mississippi State and Western Kentucky. He plans to use his final official visit early next month when he visits Mississippi State.

"I am going to take an official visit to Mississippi State on April the 10th," said Wendell." I have already been to Auburn, Western Kentucky, South Alabama and Troy."

The one time Middle Tennessee commitment is described as a player who can play above the rim and as a tenacious rebounder. Lewis believes versatility is the best aspect of his game.

"I can play the three, but I see myself as a forward in college," said Wendell. "I have always played down low, but I can play the wing."

As his decision date looms in the not so distant future, Wendell has a good idea about what he is looking for from his school of choice.

"Graduation rates, academics and the type schedule they play is going to be big," said Wendell. "I want to play in a system that gets up and down the floor too."

After Wendell takes his final official visit, he plans to sit down with those close to him and render a final decision.
