Arkansas 20, Mississippi State 9

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mississippi State surrendered a seven-run third inning and a six-run fifth inning in a 20-9 defeat to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the opening game of a Southeastern Conference doubleheader Saturday at Baum Stadium. The Bulldogs and Razorbacks actually began play Friday night. UA led 10-3 in the filth inning when the contest was halted by heavy rains.

Despite consistent snow flurries, play resumed Saturday with the Razorbacks putting the contest away, thanks to the six-run fifth inning.

The second contest of Saturday's doubleheader was postponed due to the deteriorating weather situation. The teams will now play a doubleheader Sunday, beginning at 12:05 p.m. Both games of that twinbill will be seven innings long.

The ninth-ranked Razorbacks continued their best conference start in school history, improving to 18-4 overall and 7-0 in league play. Meanwhile, MSU lost its fifth straight in league play, falling to 14-11 and 2-5.

In the Arkansas third inning, Travis Sample hit a two-run home run. Ryan Cisterna later followed with a three-run home run. The fifth inning included a two-run single by Scott Lyons and a two-run double by Andy Wilkins.

Each team finished with 14 hits, but MSU was undone by six errors.
