STARKVILLE, Miss. - The 17th-ranked Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs stay home to host UAB Monday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. (CT). MSU is coming off a 78-64 win over Xavier last Thursday to extend its overall record to 10-2 and home record to 4-0.
In addition to outstanding play from senior LaToya Thomas and sophomore Tan White, several freshmen are showing that they have something to contribute as well. Doceide Warren is currently third on the team, averaging 10.8 ppg (and this includes two 15-point outings in the six games she has been eligible). Mamie McKinney is third on the team, pulling down 60 rebounds on the season. Blessing Chekwa's scrappy basketball has earned her a starting spot in 11 of the 12 Lady Bulldog games. Chekwa has muscled down 47 rebounds, 17 steals and four blocks.
The Musketeers are 4-7 up-to-date, not including Friday night's match-up against Austin Peay. UAB's only wins this season are versus Jacksonville State, Central Michigan, Grambling State and Central Connecticut State.
What they have going for them is the 76-56 win over Mississippi State last season in Birmingham. Junior Natasha Thomas recorded a game-high 28 points and 19 rebounds in the Musketeers' win last season. The series between the two schools is tied at 11-11. UAB has been victorious in the last three
