Anthony Perine: Looking at MSU

[Premium Article] George County High School (Lucedale, MS) wide receiver Anthony Perine talks with Gene's Page about recruiting. Perine was recently selected to The Clarion-Ledger 2nd-team All-State team.

Anthony, let's start with your height, weight, 40 time and that sort of thing.
"I'm 6-foot, 175, and my best time is a 4.34 in the 40."

Wow, that 40 time is quick. Who timed you in that?
"It was timed at my high school by my coaches."

What kind of recruiting interest are you receiving right now?
"Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and Louisville."

Have you taken any official visits yet?
"Yes, I went to Louisville and Southern Miss."

Are you taking any more visits?
"Yes, I going to West Virginia this weekend (Jan. 10th), Ole Miss on the 17th, and MSU on the 24th."

Do you have any teammates at State?
"No."

Do you know any of the players personally?
"Yes, I know a couple of players from Gautier." (Bivines and Hargro)

What position do you play and how did your season go?
"I played wide receiver my junior year. I had like 40 catches for 926 yrds. Then, this past year, I played quarterback. I think I had around 1,300 yards passing and about 700 yards rushing."

What position do you want to play in college?
"Wide receiver. That's my main position."

I had heard that you comitted to USM. Is that correct?
"Yeah, I had gave them a verbal earlier, but then I said that I would look around a little bit at more schools."

So, you are still open?
"Yes."

Of the schools that are recruiting you, which one are you leaning to now?
"I'm probably leaning toward the Mississippi schools and Louisville at this time."

What do you think are the main differences between the Mississippi schools?
"Well, it seems like Southern throws the ball a lot more than the rest of them. Ole Miss....they are alright but they run the ball a lot. And MSU, they are kind of in-between, so it wouldn't be bad going up there."

So, it's important to you that you go to a school that throws the ball a lot?
"Yeah, that's why I like Louisville."

Some of those schools had coaching changes. Do you know anything about that?
"Yeah, Southern had a couple of coaches leave and go to Louisville, I think. And Louisville's head coach is gone. And Mississippi State had all those changes."

What do you know about the new coaches?
"I don't know any of them really."

What about offers? Have any of these schools offered you a scholarship yet?
"All of them except Ole Miss."

OK. I guess thats all I have for you. I really appreciate your time.
"Thanks."
