AAU Basketball Players Interviews

Included are Mississippi high school basketball player interviews (and one Louisiana player) that I did during the Mississippi 17U AAU state championship held the weekend of May 15th through 17th.

Class of 2011 LeAntwan Luckett (6-4, 170) - Ridgeland HS/AAU team Mississippi Ballers

What position do you play?
"I play the two."

Describe yourself as a player?
"I'm a slashing guard, not a set shooter. When it comes, I shoot. And I let my game come to me. I try to get everybody involved. I have a pretty good mid-range jumper. I like to get big men in foul trouble."

What do you feel you need to work on?
"I just need to be more consistent with my jump shot and my three-point range."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"Baylor has come to the school. The University of Tennessee has come to the games. Southeast Louisiana has, too. Alabama has asked me if I want to come to their camp. LSU is showing interest. Memphis saw me play at the Battle of the Bluff in Memphis. Southern Miss and Mississippi State are also interested."

How you thought about which schools you are interested in?
"No sir. Whatever I feel is best for me."


Class of 2010 Andre Stringer (5-9, 180) - Forest Hill HS/AAU team Jackson Tigers

Describe yourself as a player?
"I try to be a floor general on the floor, the leader on the floor. I'm most comfortable with shooting the (jump shot) but I like to get in the lane, too."

What do you feel you still need to work on?
"I would say my weakness is my left hand. I need to work on that."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"USC, Marquette, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

Which schools do you have at the top of your list?
"I'm pretty much open. I'm not making a decision anytime soon."


Class of 2010 Trency Jackson (6-2, 180) - Wingfield HS/AAU team Jackson Tigers

What kind of player are you - your strengths, your weaknesses?
"I'm a scoring point guard. My strength are driving to the cup and I can shoot the jumper real well. I also have a quick first step. And most likely I can beat anybody off the dribble. What I need to work on pushing the ball down the floor in transition."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"USC, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee State, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State."

Do you have a preferences when it comes to schools?
"I like USC, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State."


Class of 2010 Rashad Perkins (6-6, 200) - Starkville HS/AAU team Jackson Tigers

Describe yourself as a player?
"Offensively, I think I'm more of a transition player. I like to play in fast motion. I'm not a set up player, I like to get it and go."

You have a tremendous vertical leap. How high can you leap?
"I can get up halfway on the backboard."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, Georgetown, Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, Marquette, Cincinnati, Duke and Connecticut."

What schools have offered you?
"I have offers from Missouri, Alabama and Arkansas."

Do you have any favorite colleges?
"Right now, I'm not really thinking about what colleges I want to go to."


Class of 2011 Mychal Ammons (6-6, 205) - Vicksburg HS/AAU Jackson Tigers

Describe yourself as a player.
"Offensively, I consider myself more as a transition player. And I really look to get my teammates involved."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"I have Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, Baylor, Mississippi State, Connecticut, Ole Miss and a few more."

Do you have any scholarship offers yet?
"I have offers from Mississippi State, Baylor, Florida State and Oklahoma."

Do you have any favorite schools right now?
"I'll look at that more in my junior year and see what teams fit my style of play."


Class of 2010 Ladarrin Williams (6-6, 180) - Richwood (LA) HS/AAU team Jackson Panthers

Describe yourself as a player?
"I like to crash the boards, get the team into it. I like to take charge. I like to block shots. I do whatever I have to do to make my team better."

What positions can you play?
"I can play 2, 3 or 4."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Grambling, ULM, Southeastern Louisiana and a couple of more schools."

Do you have any offers yet?
"Yes, I have offers from Middle Tennessee and Southeastern Louisiana."

Do you have any favorites?
"I'm just working hard trying to get into college."

Aren't you doing pretty well academically?
"Yes sir, I have a 24 on my ACT and a 3.6 GPA."


Class of 2010 Jeverik Nelson (6-8, 190) - Callaway HS/AAU team Jackson Panthers

Describe yourself as a player?
"I'm very athletic, so I like to get out and run and get a lot of dunks. And produce and help my team win the game."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"Murray State, Alabama, Georgia State, Tulane, Southern Miss."

Do you have any offers yet?
"Not yet."

Which schools are you most interested in?
"I'm interested in Murray State, Georgia State and Alabama."


Class of 2010 Desmond Haymon (6-2, 185) - Williams-Sullivan HS/AAU team Jackson Panthers

Describe yourself as a player.
"I like to get my team involved by being the leader I'm supposed to be. I like to take the big shots that I need to take."

I watched you in a couple of games. You really step it up when the pressure is on don't you?
"Yes sir, that shows you where your heart is."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Missouri State, Georgia State and Middle Tennessee."

Have you received any offers yet?
"Right now, they are sending me letters and talking to me on the phone."

Are there any certain schools that you are most interested in?
"I really like all of them."


Class of 2010 Dundrecous Nelson (5-11, 186) - Murrah HS/AAU team Jackson Panthers

Describe your game.
"Right now, I think my game is kind of like explosive. It's toned down a little bit, but right now I'm working on getting it better. Shooting, I'm streaky. Sometimes I'm off, sometimes I'm on."

What schools are showing interest in you?
"Schools showing interest are Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Arkansas, UAB, Kansas State, USC and Vanderbilt."

Have you received any offers yet?
"All have offered but some are more interested than others."

Do you have a favorite school among the schools that are interested in you?
"I do, but I would rather not say."

Dundrecous committed to Ole Miss on May 19th.
