"He asked, 'would Desmond consider being here?' I said 'yes, Desmond loved it.' He said 'Desmond has an offer forthcoming and to tell him to call me (Wednesday).' They were so impressed with him. Their position coach, (assistant) Coach (Tony) Hughes, showed him so much love."
Desmond was just as impressed with Mississippi State as the MSU coaching staff was with him.
"It was fantastic," said the 6-0, 182-pounder. "I liked the organization. Their safeties coach, Coach Hughes, talked to me a lot. He told me that he likes my aggressiveness and that I have pretty good footwork, too, to be a safety, footwork close to a cornerback."
Desmond, who attended the camp with his teammate Coty Blanchard, a quarterback, was also impressed with the overall treatment he and Coty received from everybody involved with Mississippi State.
"Out of all the camps that we have attended, they showed me and Coty the most love," said Desmond. "They took the time to talk to us, showed us around and went into a lot of detail about the academics and about the school itself, about baseball and football, about the facilities. It was fantastic. They took the time out to talk to us like they really wanted us to be there, like we were already committed to them."
While Coty didn't receive a football offer, he did receive an offer from the MSU baseball staff. And that could play a huge part in Desmond's attitude about MSU if he receives the football offer that is expected to be coming.
"They were be one of the first that I would consider, especially if Coty decides to commit there," said Desmond Brown. "There would be no doubt in my mind that I would go there if Coty committed. I want to go where he goes because we are great friends."
What if Coty ends up playing baseball at State?
"Even if he winds up baseball, that wouldn't matter at all," said Desmond. "As a matter of fact, we have been talking about that. I told him if he doesn't want to play another down of football I would care less. As long as he was at Mississippi State, then I will be at Mississippi State."
And according to Coach Blanchard, they would not only be getting a great football player but an even better person.
"Desmond is as polite as he can be and he's very forthcoming," said Blanchard. "I don't think you can find anyone more giving than Desmond. And nobody works harder in practice or at being a good person. He is the complete, total package. He is a kid who will give you everything that he has got every second.
"Whoever gets Desmond is getting a guy that you can build a program around."
