Corey Dickerson Commits to MSU

Meridian Community College freshman outfielder Corey Dickerson, a 29th round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies in the June, 2009 Major League Baseball draft, has committed to Mississippi State.

"I just committed to Mississippi State," said Corey Dickerson, who also received interest from LSU. "I just felt comfortable there and decided to go ahead and commit."

MSU assistant coach Lane Burroughs is recruiting Corey for Mississippi State.

"I called Coach Burroughs," said Corey, who hit .381 with 21 doubles, 5 triples, 15 home runs and knocked in 54 runs this past season for Meridian Community College. "He was real excited and said I had made his week."

Corey still has one more decision to make over the course of the next week or two.

"I had my hitting tryout with the (Colorado) Rockies this past Monday," said the 6-3, 205-pounder. "I feel I did real good."

Now he waits to see what kind of financial offer the Rockies make.

"(The Rockies scout) is going to see how much they can give," said Corey. "I should know something later this week or early next week."

If the offer is not to his liking he plans on going back to Meridian Community College for his sophomore season and sign with Mississippi State in the early signing period.

Corey is Mississippi State's 8th commitment and 1st junior college commitment in this year's upcoming signing class.
