"Right now, I'm kind of leaning to Mississippi State."
He made note of the reasons that he's leaning Mississippi State's way.
"I've been there for a visit. I like the facilities at Mississippi State, and I kind of like the coaches there because they have been talking to me more and I'm getting in good with them," said the 6-0, 180-pounder, who not only has a scholarship offer from Mississippi State but from Southern Miss as well. "I like how they said they are going to break down my hitting. I really just like the school."
He also has interest in Southern Miss and LSU.
"LSU is always winning, and I like Southern because they are not too far from my house and I've been wanting to play for them since I was little," said Demarcus.
He expects to make a commitment in the next four to six weeks if not sooner.
"I will probably commit before I go to school or a little after," said Demarcus. "I know I'll commit before baseball season."
But he has a little baseball business to take care of first.
"I made the (East Coast Pro Showcase) Padres team that is going to Lakeland, Florida (July 31-August-4)," said Demarcus, one of just five Mississippi high school players to make the team. "I didn't know how big of a deal it was at first but when I found out it put a little smile on my face."
The invitation-only showcase tryout which is run by MLB scouts was held at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi. The other four Mississippi players to make the team were Mississippi State commitments Taylor Stark and Chase Lewallen as well as Kaleb Barlow and LSU commitment Jacoby Jones.
