Brayden impressed the two schools' coaches with his performance during a B.E.S.T tournament held in Memphis, Tennessee.
"I think I went 8-for-14 in the tournament," said Brayden, who plays his summer ball with the Jackson 96ers, a travel team based in Jackson, Mississippi.
This past weekend, Brayden's summer travel team played in the Bama Bombers Tournament held on the campus of Mississippi State. And the Mississippi State coaches continued their strong interest in him.
"I talked to all the State coaches (Friday) and mainly (assistant) Coach (Lane) Burroughs (Saturday)," said the 5-11, 185-pounder. "They said they like my bat and are impressed with how I hit."
MSU head man John Cohen gave him a quick history lesson about Mississippi State.
"Coach Cohen talked to me about their campus and the history of Mississippi State," said Brayden.
Of course, when it comes to Mississippi State's history Brayden is not completely in the dark.
"I've grown up a State fan," said Brayden. "We've always come to games."
But despite being a State fan, Brayden definitely wants to give Southern Miss a hard look.
"I visit Southern (today)," said Brayden. "I've never been to Southern, so I'm looking forward to it."
While both schools are recruiting him primarily as a hitter, Brayden is also a good pitcher, although more of a control type guy than a power arm.
"Pitching-wise, I like to control a game," said the youngster. "I don't throw hard but I seem to get outs. My fastball velocity is low- to mid-80s. I've been told that I have hit 86 a couple of times."
Brayden's fastball was consistently clocked in the 82-84 miles per hour range against the Louisiana All Stars team this past weekend.
This past season, Brayden Jones received numerous honors after hitting .413 with 7 home runs at the plate and a 1.56 earned run average on the mound. Those honors included being selected All-State, his district Most Valuable Player and The Clarion-Ledger's All-Metro Player-of-the-Year.
