Quinton McCrary Talks About His MSU Visit

Columbus High School linebacker Quinton McCrary talked to Gene's Page about his official visit to Mississippi State this past weekend.

Talk about your visit to Mississippi State this past weekend.
"It went real well. I met all of the coaches and they talked a little bit about the defensive scheme that they are going to run. It was pretty good for me."

I know you decommitted from Mississippi State after Coach Dunn left. Do you now feel more comfortable after having talked to State's new defensive coordinator Ron Cooper?
"Yes sir."

Where did they say you would play in their defense?
"Strong safety."

Are you happy with that?
"Yes sir."

Did you get to meet your position coach, Coach Hallman?
"Coach Cooper will be my position coach."

Oh, is he going to coach the secondary?
"The strong safety is like an outside (line)backer. He said that he is going to be our coach."

What were your impressions of Coach Cooper?
"When he told me that he is looking for 22 guys so that he will have two first teams, that kind of made me feel comfortable with him. He is looking for another squad that he can rotate in and out at all times."

Who was your player host while at State?
"Kenny Kern."

What did you think about him?
"(Laugh). He's big and he's just a freshman. He said that they take care of the players. He said if I work hard everything will work out for me."

What other recruits did you hang out with?
"Omarr (Conner), Joey Sanders, Lance Fremin and Brad Horton."

Where do you rank the schools that you are considering?
"State is my number one school. I believe I'm going to stay with them. I'll see what Memphis has to offer and make my decision afterwards."

You have one more visit, then that will be it?
"Yes sir."

That should do it, Quinton. Thanks for talking to me.
