MSU Looking For New Head Women's Tennis Coach

Mississippi State University is looking for a new head women's tennis coach due to the recent resignation of long-time head coach Tracy Lane, who has taken a faculty position at Western Kentucky University.

"Tracy Lane notified us a couple of weeks ago that she was leaving to take a faculty position at Western Kentucky University," said Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne. "I wish her success in her new career."

Lane has been the head coach at Mississippi State for the past thirteen years. She has a record of of 90-155 with one SEC Western Division Championship (2005). Four of her teams (1999, 2000, 2001, 2005) advanced to NCAA Tournament play.

The announcement by Lane wasn't anticipated by Byrne.

"I was surprised by the announcement," said Bryne. "But sometimes opportunities come along at times when you least expect them."

Greg is optimistic a new coach will be in place soon.

"We have placed an ad for a coach and it will be in place for 15 days," said Greg. "This is not the best timing because of when it is, but we've received some really good responses so far. And we are hopeful that we will have someone in place soon."

Once this hire has been concluded, this will be Greg's fourth head coach that he has hired while the athletic director at Mississippi State. The other three are John Cohen in baseball, Dan Mullen in football and Jenny Hazelwood in volleyball.
