"I chose State because all the coaches really stayed closer to me from day one. Even though they did bring in a new staff, they stayed in touch with us. That made us feel comfortable and welcome."
And you mentioned this morning about how close Mississippi State was to your home?
"When you stay close to home, the more people can come see you. They won't have to travel very far to watch you play. They supported me in high school, so I know they will come see me play (in college)."
I remember you said that you were leaning to Mississippi State after your Mississippi State visit. After your Ole Miss visit, were you leaning to Ole Miss?
"You thought that I had switched to Ole Miss?"
I did hear rumors that that might have been the case. How did you really feel after the Ole Miss visit?
"I wanted to go to Ole Miss but I sat down and talked to my parents and prayed about it. I then realized that I have a better chance at Mississippi State because they wanted me more than Ole Miss wanted me."
What schools did you officially visit?
"West Virginia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State."
What other schools tried to get you in for an official visit?
"Southern Miss, Auburn, Alcorn State, Jackson State and LSU."
You and Omarr seemed to want to stay close to home. Why did you guys visit West Virginia? That's not exactly close to home.
"(Laugh) You never know what you might like. And sometimes you just want to go out of state to see new things."
That should do it, Joey. I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me.
