    Assistant coach Butch Thompson interview

True freshman Matt Lane threw a good three innings today.
"Matt has thrown good twice. We are really excited about him. His curveball was working good. He was throwing his pitches down, causing them to hit down on his pitches. He only allowed two hits and one of those was in the hole just out of the reach of the shortstop."

Another freshman who threw today, Jared Miller, also seem to keep his ball down well at times.
"Jared is still developing. He may throw 20 pitches with 10 of them being big league type pitches and the other 10 gets away from him. We are working on helping him repeat his delivery."

Who were some position players that impressed you today? And what did they do that caused you to be impressed?
"Most people won't notice this but (juco transfer catcher) Wes Thigpen is doing a really good job of handling the pitchers. He has been doing a great job of that everyday.

"(Sophomore outfielder) Brent Brownlee has been a great weapon for us, both offensively and defensively. He's hitting the ball well and he's always pressuring the defense with the way he runs the bases. I've been very impressed with him.

"Another guy who impressed me is (juco transfer outfielder) Jaron Shepherd. Jaron seems to be getting more comfortable every day. All of the guys love him. He's such a great teammate."
