"We had a super group that were out hosts. Tommy Ferrill was his real host. He was at the hotel waiting on Linzy. Tommy took him out and introduced him around. He met all of the other tight ends and really had a good time."
Was there anything that happened during the visit that stood out in your mind?
"Mississippi State makes you feel so important when you walk in the locker room. The excitement in Linzy's voice was worth it all. He came over to me and said, 'come here. I want to show you something.' They had a solid maroon jersey hanging in a locker and up on the locker they had a display that said L. Patterson, 89. The jersey was hanging in the locker and had Patterson on the back and had his number 89 on it. Rockey Felker walked over to him and said, 'Linzy, I think that number is open and if you want to wear it, you can.' They didn't give us a jersey; don't misunderstand me. They had a jersey hanging there for every recruit and asked them to put them on. Big Rex Hill had a hard time putting his on. They take your picture right there and took them outside and took a group picture. Then, you had your individual meeting with Coach Sherrill. They took us over to Coach Sherrill's office and those pictures were laying on Coach Sherrill's conference table. That was impressive. Linzy was pretty impressed with that."
When will Linzy sign with Mississippi State? "We expect Linzy will sign (a scholarship) in December and will be going to Mississippi State on full scholarship January, 2004. We prefer it that way. Linzy has already taken several college courses and will have six hours when he finishes high school. In the summer, he will take six more hours during the first session of summer school. Before August 1st, Linzy will have 12 hours of college courses. When we told Coach Sherrill that, he looked at me and looked at Linzy and was kind of shocked and said, 'that is big'. I told him that we have been planning for this so that he wouldn't have to come in his freshman year and have to get acclimated to everything that goes on at school."
It sounds like you guys have it really planned out. Well, that should about do it. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me, Sylvia.
"Thank you for calling."
