MSU World Series Game 4 Stats and Info

Mississippi State baseball played game 4 of the MSU Fall World Series Sunday. Included are complete stats and notes from the game. The Grey squad won to even the series 2-2. Deciding game 5 is set for a 4:00 pm start time Tuesday.

  • The winning pitcher was Trey Johnson and the losing pitcher was Matt Lane.
  • The Maroon team took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on a RBI double by Jaron Shepherd and a bases loaded walk to Ben Bracewell. The Maroons added four more runs in the top of the 3rd to take what appeared to be a very safe 6-0 lead. Three straight doubles by Russ Sneed, Jet Butler and Wes Thigpen plated the four runs. The Grey squad started their comeback in the top of the 4th when they scored 2 runs on a two-run double by Nick Vickerson. They added two more runs in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI double by Trey Johnson and a run-scoring single by Cody Freeman to make the score 6-4. The Maroon squad moved the lead back out to 8-4 with a run-scoring triple by Ryan Collins and a single by Frank Rawdow that scored Collins. But the Greys, in dramatic fashion, scored 5 runs off of losing pitcher Matt Lane in the top of the 7th to take a 9-8 lead. Vickerson, Carlos Leal, Johnson, Ryan Duffy and Freeman all had RBI in the inning. Trey Johnson got three-up, three-down in the bottom half of the inning to earn the victory.
  • State's runners were 2-for-4 in stolen base attempts. Nick Vickerson and Ryan Duffy stole the bases.
