In the first week of play, Mississippi State leads all Southeastern Conference teams in scoring offense, averaging 93 points a game. The Lady Bulldogs rank third in the league in scoring defense allowing 49 points on average in the first two contests.
Senior Tysheka Grimes has paced the Lady Bulldogs thus far, averaging 17 points an outing including a 22-point performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In that contest, she also pulled down 12 rebounds for her seventh career double-double.
All-SEC guard Alexis Rack is averaging 15 points a game and paces the team in steals with six. She is also tied for the team lead in assists with seven.
Hailing from Orem, Utah, the Utah Valley Wolverines come into Wednesday's game with a 2-1 record. Most recently, UVU defeated the College of Idaho 72-56 in Orem. The Wolverines are led by senior Julie Smith who is averaging 18 points an outing in the first three game this season. Head coach Cathy Nixon is 266-160 in her 15th season at UVU.
The only previous meeting between Mississippi State and Utah Valley came last season in Orem as the Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Wolverines 71-63.
Following Wednesday's game, State closes out its homestand with a matchup with perennial power Maryland from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Sunday's game is set for a 2 p.m. tip off from the Humphrey Coliseum.
