MSU Fall World Series Stats

Mississippi State baseball stats, hitting and pitching, for the 2009 Fall World Series are included in this article. I have also included a few notes from the world series as well as the most valuable hitter, most valuable pitcher and most valuable player.

MSU Fall World Series Notes

  • Most Valuable Player - Junior infielder Nick Vickerson, a junior college transfer, hit .500 (6-for-12) with an on-base percentage of .600 for the 5-games Fall World Series. He also drove in 6 runs, which tied for the lead in the series. Of the 9 baserunners that were on base when he came to bat, he knocked in 6 while batting .667 with runners on base (4-for-6). He also had 2 doubles, a triple and walked three times while striking out just once during the series. Against Devin Jones and Chris Stratton, two of MSU's top three pitchers (he didn't face Nick Routt), he was 2-for-4.
  • Most Valuable Hitter - Nick Vickerson won this award as well.
  • Most Valuable Pitcher - True freshman righthander Chris Stratton allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings of work. Of his 21 outs, 14 were by strikeout, 2 groundouts, 1 popup and 4 flyouts. This was a toss up between Chris and sophomore righthander Devin Jones. I gave it to Chris due to him pitching more innings. Both Devin and Chris threw 4 innings in their first outing but Chris had more strikeouts (7 to 2) and gave up less hits (1 to 4) in that outing.
