Lady Bulldogs Upset No. 9 Georgia

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's Alexis Rack poured in 34 points and the Lady Bulldogs proved stingy on defense, paving the way for a 74-66 upset win over No. 9 Georgia in a Southeastern Conference women's basketball game Thursday night in the Humphrey Coliseum.

MSU knocked off its fourth ranked opponent this season and second this week. It was MSU's highest-ranked victory since a 79-75 win over also ninth-ranked Florida on Feb. 18, 2001. MSU also snapped a six-game losing streak in the series.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-7 overall and 5-3 in league play. Georgia fell to 18-3 and 5-3 with its second straight loss.

The score was tied twice and the lead changed hands six times before the hosts took the lead for good in the final minutes of the opening half. MSU led 35-25 at halftime.

MSU opened as big as a 16-point advantage and shook off some difficulty with the full-court press to close out the victory.

For Rack, it was her biggest output ever in a league game. The point total trailed only a 43-point night earlier this season against Maryland. Armelie Lumanu added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Chanel Mokango scored 14 points.

Georgia received 16 points from Meredith Mitchell, 12 points from Angel Robinson and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Porsha Phillips.
