Lady Bulldogs Defeat Georgia In SEC Tourney

DULUTH, Ga. - Mississippi State rolled past No. 22 Georgia 67-52 in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Friday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The third-seeded Lady Bulldogs advance to the league semifinals for the third time in school history. MSU faces second-seeded Kentucky at 5 p.m. CT Saturday with the winner advancing to the championship game. Both the Tennessee-Vanderbilt and MSU-UK semifinal matchups will be televised nationally by ESPNU.

MSU scored 44 second-half points to erase a 26-23 halftime deficit. The Lady Bulldogs seized the lead for good with a 17-4 run midway through the final half. MSU drained three 3-point baskets during that run, including a critical shot by Alexis Rack as the shot clock expired.

Rack was one of four MSU players in double figures with a team-best 14 points. Mary Kathryn Govero added 13 points, while both Tysheka Grimes and Armelie Lumanu added 12 points. Grimes played sparingly in the final half due to heavy foul trouble.

The tournament win gives MSU back-to-back wins over Georgia for only the fourth time in school history.
