MSU OL Coach Steve Campbell

[Premium Article] Gene's Page caught up with MSU's new offensive line coach, Steve Campbell, last week. Although he has yet to see his players on the field, he did comment on things that he likes about his players after watching most of them on film from last season.

Coach Steve Campbell's comments:

"Overall, looking at them on film, it seems to be a good core group of offensive linemen coming back.

"We have (junior) Blake Jones back. Blake started every game last year at center. He did a good job of making the calls up front and seems to have a real good head on his shoulders and can move his feet well. It's always good to have a center coming back.

"(Sophomore) Richard Burch will be back, and hopefully we will get him back soon enough to go through spring. If he keeps coming along, we will be able to get him some good work in spring training. Richard definitely has a lot of ability. He got some early playing time last year before he sustained his injury. He has a very promising future in front of him. He just needs to get in the weight room and rehab the injuries that he has. He should be a very good player for us.

"(Junior) Brad Weathers is another guy that got some quality playing time last year. He also battled a few injuries last year. He is a big, strong kid who can move his feet well. He has a good future in front of him.

"(Junior) David Stewart also got a lot of quality playing time last year. David has all the tools to be an excellent offensive lineman. He just needs to continue to get stronger in the weight room and work on getting bigger. He has a very good frame, and from talking to the strength coach a tremendous work ethic in the weight room. I am very excited about David.

"(Sophomore) Chris McNeil got some very good, quality playing time early before he got hurt. The strength coach said that he is 100% well and completely over his injury problems. That will be a big shot in the arm for us.

"I haven't seen (redshirt freshman) James Redmond on film, but he has the frame to be a good offensive lineman. Talking to the strength coaches, he is working tremendously hard in the weight room. He is a guy that should definitely push for playing time in the fall.

"I've heard some good things about (sophomore) Avery House from the strength coaches. He is ready to push for some playing time.

"(Junior) Will Rogers has moved back to the offensive line. He will have a chance to make a push this spring for playing time.

"We have moved (redshirt freshman) Otis Riddley from defensive line to offensive line. We are excited about taking a look a look at him on the offensive line.

"(Sophomore) Johnny Wadley, we are looking for some good things out of Johnny this spring. Talking to Coach (Glenn) Davis and Coach (Terry) Lewis, they said that Johnny has a lot of potential on the offensive line. I"m really looking forward to working with him this spring.

"There are a lot of good, quality young guys."
