A Q&A With Bernardrick McKinney

Rosa Fort High School (Tunica, MS) athlete Bernardrick McKinney (6-3, 210) talked with Gene's Page one on one after the conclusion of the Mississippi State football camp.

What did the Mississippi State staff measure your height and weight to be and what did you run the forty in?
"They had me 6-3 without shoes and my forty was 4.5 flat."

Is the 4.5 normal for you or did it surprise you?
"It surprised me but it was my first time to run it since my 9th grade year. I ran a 4.9 in the 9th run."

Who is looking at you right now?
"Southern Miss, Memphis, LSU, North Carolina and Mississippi State. There are a lot of schools. I can't name them all."

What did the coaches at Mississippi State talked to you about while at their camp?
"They said I'm a great athlete. And they are recruiting me as an athlete, but they want me to play linebacker."

Have you ever played linebacker?
"Yes sir, I play it in Pee Wee Football and I play it now."

What position do you like to play?
"When I get hit at quarterback, I like to go back on defense so I can hit them back. (laugh)"

Have any of the schools offered a scholarship?
"No sir."

Have any of the coaches talked to you about offering?
"The Southern Miss coach talked to me about signing. And I think Mississippi State is going to try to sign me."

Have you grown up a fan of any particular school?
"The Texas Longhorns."

I know you were at the Mississippi State camp. Are you going to any more camps this summer?
"Yes sir, I am going to a lot more because I'm trying to get better."
