Brayden Jones Update

Madison Central (MS) High School infielder Brayden Jones, a member of the Mississippi State 2010 recruiting class, talks about hitting at Dudy Noble Field and what is expected of him his freshman season at Mississippi State.

In the two games in the travel team tournament your team, the Jackson 96ers, is playing in at Dudy Noble Field this weekend you are 5-for-6 with 3 doubles, a home run and 5 RBI. Obviously, you seem to hit really well at Dudy Noble Field, don't you?
Brayden Jones - "Yes sir (laugh). I've been seeing the ball better this summer. And it's not as stressful (playing summer ball)."

Dudy Noble is not the easiest place to hit home runs. Did you expect the ball to go out when you first hit it?
"I didn't know it was going to be over the fence because it was more a line drive than a towering fly ball, so I was sprinting out the box then I saw it go over."

I've seen you play three times this year. You have played third base and pitched a little. Have the Mississippi State coaches talked to you about what position they want you to play when you first get to MSU?
"So far, they have just been talking about infield, probably a corner position."

I've seen you play third base but not first base. Have you ever played first base?
"I've played first base a little bit. I played more growing up than I do now. But I have played it a couple of times during the season after I pitched."

Speaking of pitching, have the State coaches talked to you about pitching when you get to Mississippi State?
"At first, they were talking about me pitching a couple of scrimmages in the fall just to see how it went. But I'm kind of leaning toward just playing infield."

What do the State coaches expect from you the first season? Do they expect you to play or possibly redshirt?
"They said they expect us to come out and compete and whoever the best players are will play."
