Matthew Goodson Update

Oxford High School (Oxford, AL) junior outfielder Matthew Goodson will likely wind up being one of the top players in Alabama and possibly the entire southeast his senior season. And according to his summer travel team coach, Steve Gendron, he is already starting to receive significant college interest.

"Goodson is a young, rising junior that a lot of big schools are interested in," said Gendron, who coaches the Excel Blue Wave 17u travel team. "He's a tools galore guy. He's a 6.5 (seconds) sixty guy with good pop in batting practice (although) he's still figuring out how to hit. I think he has a chance to go to an SEC or ACC school. And he'll probably go in the (MLB) draft in two years if he stays healthy."

He's already received a couple of offers from instate schools.

"I've already gotten offers from Alabama and Auburn," noted Goodson. "They offered within the last month. I really like Bama a lot."

Goodson was invited to the Junior National Showcase at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida that was held in June and had a good showing.

"I feel I had a pretty good showcase," said the 5-11, 200-pounder. "I ran the sixty in 6.57 seconds and I was able to throw 93 (miles per hour) from the outfield."

Goodson talked about his overall game.

"I feel if I take a good approach at the plate I always have a good chance at getting on base," said Matthew Goodson, who bats and throws right-handed. "I try to swipe a bag if I can. I play hard. I'm old school."
