Thomas joins Chamique Holdsclaw (UT) and Kelly Miller (UGA) as a two-time AP SEC Player of the Year. The three are the only SEC players to earn both AP and Coaches honors in the same year (the AP award did not begin until 1997).

"It's a great honor to be named the AP SEC Player of the Year," said LaToya Thomas. "I'm proud to be able to represent my team and university."

Thomas has now been named to the AP All-SEC First Team all four years of her career. She becomes the first athlete to earn both the AP SEC Newcomer of the Year and AP SEC Player of the Year honors in her career.

Earlier she became the first Lady Bulldog to be named the SEC Player of the Year, voted upon by the coaches in the conference.
