It's been a busy week for Spiro High athlete McKinley Whitfield. He picked up scholarship offers from Tulsa, Arkansas State, Navy, Army in addition to Missouri State. But what is drawing so many schools to Whitfield with offers in hand?

"I had 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards passing last year," Whitfield said. "I had 70 tackles and four interceptions. My year went great."

Based on statistics alone, Whitfield appears to be a versatile prospect. What kind of player is he?

"I want to play safety sometimes. Then other times I want to play receiver or at quarterback. I don't know right now. I'll play whatever the coaches want me to play," he continued.

Whitfield will have a chance to show many coaches his abilities at various camps.

"I'm going to camp at Memphis this summer. I'm going to camp at Tulsa and Oklahoma State. I'm also going to make it down to Missouri State," he said.

Whitfield likes the staff at Missouri State and has talked with Sean Coughlin.

"I talked to Coach Coughlin. They offered me Tuesday. I love the coaches. They are really cool. I have considered taking a visit there. It's going to be hard because it's so far," he continued.

So what is Whitfield looking for when he makes his college decision?

"I'm just looking for a place that makes me feel at home. I want to be in a great program that I can succeed. I'm looking for good academics too," he finished.
