Dave Steckel added Oklahoma defensive tackle Walter Watson to his 2016 recruiting class this week. Watson felt great about what the program had to offer him.
“The offer was exciting because it was my first D1 offer. It was very special,” said Watson. “The commit was (exciting) because I just fell in love with the place as soon as I got there and the coaching staff,” said Watson.
Watson also had another tell-tale sign of a good college choice.
“My Mom also loved the campus. You can’t go wrong if your mom likes the college,” he continued.
In general, however, Watson just loved the feel of the Missouri State campus.
“I love the atmosphere and the people there. I felt like I could get real comfortable when I get there,” he continued.
Watson chose Missouri State over offers from Missouri Southern, Emporia State, Northeastern Oklahoma and other schools. All the schools clearly liked the same things about the 6-foot-2, 270-pound senior.
“I feel like my speed off the ball and my upper body strength (are strengths),” he said. “And my knowledge of play recognition really makes me have an advantage.”
