Looking To Visit Tigers Next Month

Southern defensive prospect talks to ShowmeMizzou.com about Missouri, and a possible visit scheduled in January

The Missouri Tigers usually like to have their recruiting class wraped up by Christmas if at all possible. This year it that did not happen and the Tigers continue to look for prospects to fill out the 2011 recruiting class.

ShowMeMizzou.com has learned of one prospect who has appeared on the radar screen in recent weeks that plans on visiting the Tigers in January. West Monroe (LA) cornerback Michael Hunter 6'1"175 who has been timed at 4.41 forty, and has a 37.5 vertical jump.

Michael was recently named Louisiana All-State honorable mention at defensive back along with being named 1st team All-district, All Conference and All-Northeastern Louisiana 1st team defensive back while helping lead his team to 2nd place in the 5A state championship game.

We spoke with Hunter recently and he filled us in on his recruitment by the Tigers.

"I have been hearing from Missouri since about our second game in the playoffs", said Michael Hunter. "It's been a few weeks. I originally heard from Coach Henson, who is recruiting me. They looked at my film and liked what they saw and have been recruiting me since. At some point I look forward to talking to Coach Pinkel soon."

Hunter, who told me he had around 45 tackles and a couple of picks as a senior, wasn't very familiar with the Tigers, but has been doing his homework since he started hearing from them.

"I have tried to find out as much as possible. I have been following them and I watched the bowl game last night. I thought they looked good. That was tough to lose on that pick like that. I don't know about Columbia much yet, but I am looking forward to finding out more."

Michael Hunter told me that he thought he could have helped the Tigers on the field with his cover skills which he said are his strength after watching the game. He also said that he will get to check out Columbia first hand as he is planning to make an official visit sometime in late January along with his cousin and Missouri offer, DT Chuck Hunter.

" I am planning on visiting either January 21st or the 28th. I don't know which date has been settled on yet. I plan on talking to the coaches before that, but I will be visiting along with Chuck sometime around then."

Michael does not have an offer from the Tigers as of now, but said that he expects one when he visits. He also talked about him and cousin Chuck attending the same school.

"I don't have an offer either written or verbal right now from Missouri, but they have talked about me getting one when I visited. Chuck and I want to go together to the same school. That's the plan right now."

Besides Missouri, Michael mentioned some other schools who have entered the picture for his services.

"I will also be visiting Illinois, and Oklahoma State has contacted me lately. Supposedly they want me to visit them. They said I would hear from them sometime after their bowl game."

Hunter, who has a 4.0 GPA and also holds offers from Duke and Baylor among others, plans on making a decision after taking his visits. We will continue to keep you updated on his recruitment with the Missouri Tigers.
