Top 2012 In-State Prospect Holds Tiger Offer

The Missouri Tigers target another one of the top prospects overall in the 2012 Missouri high school class

The quality of the state of Missouri's 2012 football class is pretty high with several top national prospects such as Dorial Green-Beckham, Durron Neal and Evan Boehm.

One of the top prospects just hitting the college football recruiters radar screen is Parkway North LB Donavin Newsom 6'2"220 4.5 forty.

Newsom, who has started on varsity since his freshman year, had a breakout junior season for the Vikings recording 91 tackles, 5 sacks and 2INTs-one which he returned for a TD.

Donavin also starred on offense late in the season playing tailback, including a monster game against Webster Groves where he ran for 249 yards and 2 TDs,plus returned a kick off 92 yards for a score.

It's no suprise that Donavin Newsom has picked up a verbal offer from his homestate Missouri Tigers for football. spoke with Newsom recently about his offer and his thoughts on Mizzou.

"Yes,sir, I have a verbal offer from the Tigers",said Newsom."I couldn't take the smile off my face when I found out that they wanted me to play for them. It's such an honor.

I asked Donavin what the Tigers being the first school to offer meant to him.

"It means a lot. It means that they have followed me and recognized my talents and think a lot about me. I feel really good about it. I like Missouri very much and follow them. I seriously think I will go there. I mean, I am going to their junior day and I will check things out, but I can see myself playing there. They are at the top of my list."

Donavin follows Missouri football and is familiar with the program.

"I really like their style. I like the aggressive way they play defense. They go all out. That's the way I like to play."

Newsom is also a standout on the Parkway North basketball team where he is the third leading scorer with 10.2 points per game and the leading rebounder with 6.2 per game.

If that were not enough, Donavin is also a track standout for the Vikings in the 100 and 200 meter sprints and the long jump, where he had a personal best of 21.75 feet in 2010.

I have watched Donavin Newsom play since his freshman season. He displayed above averge athleticism and ability for the game back then. He has continued to progress both as a player and athlete over the following two seasons and has become an elite athlete and football player. He has great speed and quickness which he uses to cover sideline to sideline from his MLB position, and he also brings a lot of pressure on the blitz and has good cover skills as well. He is physical and plays with a mean streak on the field. He has very good hands and ball skills. He could probably be a very talented tailback with his size, speed, vision and natural ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. I have Donavin Newsom among my top 5 overall prospects in the state of Missouri for the 2012 class.

Below is a video interview I did with Donavin Newsom and his coach Bob Bunton, mid-year of his junior season, after identifying him as one of the top 2012 prospects in Missouri.
