The state of Missouri looks to be producing one of it's more talented classes of football players for the year of 2012 with 15 prospects already holding Division one offers.
One of the fastest rising prospects among that class is Kansas City (MO) Staley DE/DT Nathanael Lohn 6'3' 265lbs 4.8 forty.
The super strong senior-to be transferred to Staley high school last season from the Springfield (MO) area, and was one of the biggest contributors on the Falcons defense with 98 tackles and 12 sacks.
ShowMeMizzou.com spoke to Lohn not long ago to get the latest on his recruitment, and to get his thoughts on the Missouri Tiger program which is evaluating him very closely.
Nate Lohn's high school teammate and recent Missouri commit Morgan Steward has spoken to me about his desire to have Lohn play with him in college. I asked Nate about that possibility.
"Morgan is a great friend! He is just a great person and he and Trent Hosick are my best friends. I know he spoke to Tiger coaches about me", said Lohn.
"I really like Missouri. I went to junior day up there and have talked to Coach Hill. I am hoping to get an offer from them because they are a great school academically and I want to study meteorology and broadcasting. I like the football program and I think it would be a good fit for me both football wise and with what I want to major in."
I asked Nate about any future plans to visit or camp with Missouri.
"I plan on going up during spring practice sometime. I will also likely camp with them either when they come to Kansas City or at their team camp this summer. They said they are evalauting me.", said Lohn.
Besides Missouri, I wanted to get his thoughts on his three current offers and schools visited.
"I enjoyed my trip to Iowa State. I kinda was surprised by the offer when I went there, but I was really happy" exclaimed Lohn. "The coaches there seemed very high class and honest. It wasn't a large group for junior day, so, I got some personal attention."
"I like Kansas State", continued Lohn. "It's closer to home and it seems like they are a good and growing program."
And regarding Stanford offer?
"I was very honored because Stanford is an awesome school!"
With all the recent activity I wondered if Nate had a timeframe regarding a decision on a possible school destination.
"I plan to just see how it goes. I will be praying with my family a lot, and when I find a place I like I will know it and then decide."
Player Analysis: Nathaneal Lohn is an intriguing prospect for 2012. He is extremely strong with a 435lb bench press, 315lbs power clean and 550lb squat max. He loves the gym and plans on reaching a 500lb bench max by the end of his senior year. He is also very quick and explosive with good speed in the 4.8 range at 265lb and reports a 31.5 vertical jump. He recently tested 1.53 in 10 yards.
Nate was an attendee at the US Army combine and did well in the 1 on 1's and pushed 185lbs 38 times in the bench.
He plays DE in high school and uses his speed and strength well. He is able to overwhelm OTs with both along with his quickness and get to the QB. He is also strong against the run and is tough for linemen to move. He has a great motor, work ethic and attitude. Very coachable and great kid. Equally strong against the run and as a pass rusher.
He has the frame to add another 20-25lbs and keep his speed and quickness to become a 3-technique defensive tackle in college.
Look for Lohn to make a run at being one of the top 10 players in the state overall for 2012.
