Coaching changes, schools coming to see him. None of it seems to bother big Kalen Grimes. The junior power forward just goes about his business, and it sounds like he's in no hurry to reach a decision.
"I'm looking at a lot of schools right now," Grimes said. "I haven't really made the list." Well, he can say that but we're pretty sure a winner will emerge from a list he gave us of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Iowa, Minnesota, Arkansas, Creighton and Arizona. The big fella was able to rattle those programs off rather easily.
But, he wasn't about to give much away in terms of a leader. "I'd say they're all about equal. I would have strongly given thought to Illinois." On Monday, as you know, Illinois lost its coach and Kansas gained a new one. Still, Grimes says he'll look into the Illini.
Meanwhile, Kansas remains an option. "I have a pretty good relationship with Coach Self. He's been a very strong recruiter and I've gotten to know him as a friend. Him leaving Illinois was kind of exciting to me but it didn't really hurt my plans since I don't know where I want to go."
In fact, Grimes feels like Illinois, Iowa and Arizona are actually recruiting him the hardest at this point. The Hawkeyes, Illini, Mizzou Tigers and Arizona Wildcats have really tried to get him to take an official visit.
"Right now I'm just playing in the summer to try and improve my game and my ranking. I'll take care of that sometime in the fall. Then I'll choose my school."
