Word started to spread this weekend that Everman (TX) LB Torey Boozer 6'3" 203" had committed to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday. ShowMeMizzou.com tracked the story down and found out that the gun may have been jumped prematurely.
Everman (TX) coaches, including head coach Dave Keeling, were surprised by the news and thought there might be more to the story given the fact that Boozer recently received his offer from the Tigers and had not visited the Missouri campus yet. Coach Matlock, also with Everman, felt that there was some confusion on everyone, including possibly Boozer's part, and that there was more to this recruiting story then was being told.
We spoke to Torey Boozer and he confirmed what his high school coaches alluded to earlier.
"I committed to Missouri on Saturday while talking to coach Steckel, but I will be taking visits to other schools and making sure that I made the right choice," said Boozer.
I asked Torey and he said he would consider it a "soft commit" for now.
I also asked him if the Tiger coaches were aware of this and his plans to make other visits.
"Yes, they should be,"he said, also adding, "My Mom and coaches all just want me to make sure that I am making the best decision for myself and that I am sure where I am going and will stick to it."
"I am visiting TCU in two weeks and then I am visiting Missouri I think the second week in June. I don't have a date yet for Arizona," said Boozer.
The standout linebacker prospect, who also has offers from Houston and SMU, told me that he will be playing defensive end this coming season. The Missouri coaches reportedly told him that they want him as an outside linebacker.
"I like to hit and I play every play out full speed until the whistle blows. Coach Steckel said they want me for outside linebacker and that I remind them of one of their former players currently in the NFL, Sean Weatherspoon."
Torey said that he researched Missouri and likes the schools academics and football program. He hopes to find out more on his visit.
Boozer thinks things will become clearer for him in a few weeks and ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to update and follow his recruitment.
