Over recent years, the Missouri Tigers have recruited in the state of Michigan, a place they were familiar recruiting from their days as a staff while at Toledo.
ShowMeMizzou.com has learned of a Michigan defensive line prospect currently on the Tigers radar that will be coming into Columbia this weekend for an unofficial visit on Monday.
Muskegon Heights (MI) DE/DT Evan Winston 6'4" 255 informed us that he will be heading to Missouri on Sunday for a visit and could possibly pick up an offer from the Tigers.
We spoke to Evan to get the scoop on him, the Tigers and his recruitment.
"I have been hearing from Missouri for about 3 months, and I have been talking to D-line coach Kul (Craig Kuligowski) for a while now," said Winston. " I have a good relationship with coach Kul and he said that they wanted me to come down and take a look around on an unofficial visit and get a feel for them. So, I will be in Missouri on Sunday and take my unofficial on Monday and look around at everything and meet the coaches."
Winston has family in Missouri and has made many trips to the St. Louis area over the years.
"My Mom is from Missouri. Her entire family is from there. My Dad's family is from East St. Louis, so over my life we use to make about 4 trips each summer down there. But since football got serious for me we haven't made as many trips. I am looking forward to going back there," Winston said.
Evan had some very nice things to say about the Missouri football program and the hopes of receiving an offer from the Tigers.
"It's Missouri- everybody's always talking about Missouri football and what a good program they are. They win and they produce great players that go to the NFL. They didn't get a chance to see me this spring, so hopefully I can come down and pick up an offer."
" Along with Mizzou I will be visiting Iowa and Cincinnati on unofficial visits. Northwestern has pretty much told me the same thing as Missouri, that they want me to visit and talk about an offer. I am not sure if we will make it there on this trip or not," said Winston.
And could a commitment be possible if he lands a Missouri offer on or soon after his visit?
"I definitely want to make a decision before the start of my senior season. What I will do is go home and talk things over with my parents, it will definitely be a family decision, and decide what's best for me. Then I will choose," he said.
Evan Winston described his strengths as a player as his "explosive first step, using his hands well, and getting to the QB" being what is behind his recruitment.
"Muskegon has produced some good players to go off and play college ball, including my brother. I am going to be next."
ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow up on Evan Winston's recruitment.
