There is a famous rock song about the town of La Grange (TX) by the band ZZ Top that most everyone has heard or knows about. 2012 La Grange high school offensive and defensive lineman Chad Childs 6'4" 275lbs (400lbs bench press-550lbs squat self reported) said that coaches seem to be able to identify his location by bringing up the song.
"Yeah, most of the coaches I talk with bring up that song when we talk," Childs said.
Chad Childs is hoping La Grange becomes known because of his outstanding play which has brought him a handful of college offers from several schools including the University of Missouri.
ShowMeMizzou.com spoke to Childs about his Missouri offer and how his football recruitment was going recently.
"I received my offer from Missouri sometime in May. I got word about it from my high school coach and I talked to Coach Jones who is recruiting me," Childs said.
And Chad's thoughts on the Missouri offer and the Tigers?
"I was pretty excited when I got it. I mean, it's a Big 12 school that is very successful. I don't know too much about them other then watching them on TV and they have been good. I would say they are pretty much in the picture and a school I would like to take an official(visit) to,"Childs said.
Chad was an All-District performer as a junior at defensive tackle. He said that most schools at looking at him for that position except the Tigers.
"Missouri likes me as an offensive lineman, probably guard or center,"said Childs. "Last year was my first year playing O-line, but I liked it."
Also a standout in track, golf and powerlifting, Childs is not sure of his major yet, but would like to be a coach sometime in his future.
He would also like to make a decision sometime before his season starts, but said that it would likely be during his season after taking some official visits. He also reported having a good GPA and scoring a 22 on his ACT test.
