One player who quickly stood out at last month's Missouri Elite camp was 2012 SG Demarquise Johnson 6'5" 185 Phoenix (AZ) Westwind Academy. Johnson, who is originally from Michigan, informed ShowMeMizzou.com that he had received a Missouri offer.
This summer, Johnson has developed into one of the more prolific scoring wings on the AAU circuit. Last season, as a junior, he led Westwind Prep (30-3) with 19.1 points a game. At Missouri's Elite camp last month, Johnson was one of the top two players in attendance, and displayed a high-major physique, athleticism, and scoring ability. His strength, quickness, and explosiveness allowed him a decided advantage against most of the competition at that camp.
We saw this impressive player again earlier this month, at the Mullen's High Profile Tournament. After Johnson's California-based Team Elite played in a recent tournament in Anaheim, he took time to speak with ShowMeMizzou.com, and he updated us on his recruitment.
"I'm starting to narrow things down," explained Johnson, who likes to be called "Q". "I've got a top three of Missouri, Oregon State, and Washington. Then, the next two are probably UNLV and Colorado."
Q indicated that he would like to sign in November, so a decision would probably come before then.
Johnson said that location won't be much of a factor in his college choice. He said that the coaching staff would be his primary determinant. Then, he shared his thoughts regarding the Missouri staff.
"I liked the coaching staff (at Missouri) a lot," said Q. "The coaches were all cool, and I liked the campus. I like Coach Haith. He's been to a couple of my games. And, Coach Fuller, Coach Chew."
Q said that he could see himself playing at Missouri.
ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow Demarquise Johnson's recruitment.
