Camp Quick Hitters: Day 2

The Missouri Tigers had a quick turnaround for their second practice of the 2011 pre-season ans they hit the field early this morning. Here are some quick hits from today.

The Missouri Tigers had a quick turnaround after yesterday's late afternoon practice with a 7:15 start this morning. Some of the players seemed a little sore but still gave it their all as they remain excited about the start of football 2011.

Here are some quick hitters from this mornings practice with the full report coming soon.

Another strong day by starting QB James Franklin. One of things fans will notice from Franklin is his pocket management and decision making abilities. There is little hesitation with James as far as what to do with the ball. He steps up in the pocket well not fearing pressure or he pulls the ball down and makes positive yardage running the ball if no one is open on pass plays. No running out the back of the pocket, running sideways, ect.  The one thing he may need to work on is not seeking out contact so much on running plays. His health will be extra important with the current depth situation.

Franklin and Glaser took most of the snaps today. Glaser is the clear #2 quarterback at this time, but Corbin Berkstresser continues to show flashes with his talent that will push Glaser once he learns the reads and offense better.

Berkstresser has such a great arm. He has a quick release, can put the ball in a small window with his accuracy and velocity and make NFL type throws already. However, he is still just a freshman and can make one great looking play and then come back and make you ask yourself how he missed something so easy. Consistency will be the key for him. That will come in time.

WR Jerrell Jackson had a good day. Greg has an interview with him coming. He talked up James Franklin and how he is doing in his new role.  Jerrell mentioned how Franklin sees the field and spreads the ball around very well.Jackson has been consistent the first two days and looks very good.

Bud Sasser could possibly be the best receiver on the team once he gets his chance. He continues to be very impressive.

Marcus Lucus is also making good strides.

Eric Waters has solidified his second team position behind Egnew and continues to put space between himself and Andrew Jones.

Dominique Hamilton had another very good day which he topped off with a pass interception on a screen attempt. Hamilton looks fully recovered and highly motivated for his senior season. He has the look of a future NFL player.

While still 3rd team, Lucas Vincent looks in the best shape since his arrival and ready to make some noise along the DL depth chart.

Second team DEs Michael Sam and Kony Ealy look like potential starters on any other team in the country. Great depth at DE for the Tigers this year again.

Greg spent a good deal of time watching cornerback Tristan Holt. He will shares his thoughts on him, but Holt is a player that looks like he will be needed to step up and be the 3rd cornerback the Tigers will need this year. Athletically he has everything you look for. Now it just needs to click for him.

The Tigers practice for the first time in pads tomorrow at 7:15 in the AM.

A full practice report will be coming soon.
