Camp Quick Hitters: Friday Morning

The Missouri Tigers went through a light practice in shorts and shells in as they prepared for their first scrimmage of camp coming up on Saturday morning.

The Missouri Tigers held a light practice in just shells and shorts as they prepared for their first scrimmage of pre-season camp coming on Saturday morning.

The team started on Faurot field before having to move indoors when it started lightning.

Jerrell Jackson came up at the end of practice with a hamstring pull and will miss tomorrow's scrimmage. Hopefully, it will be something that does not become a long term problem, but it will give the Tiger staff a chance to look at some of the other receivers vying for spots a closer look.

Freshman QB Corbin Berkstresser continue to get more work with the second unit. Right now he does some really good things and then still makes a freshman mistake that frustrates you. He does look like the second best QB just based on his talent alone.

A lot of the usual guys continue to stand out.

Sheldon Richardson and Kony Ealy dominated in the 1 on 1's again.

Once Sheldon is in better shape and becomes more acclimated to the system and college game he has the chance to be a dominant player. He and Ealy are just a different level of athlete.

Ealy took turns running around Anthony Gatti and Jack Meiners in the drills.

It makes you wonder if he will ultimately push Jacquies Smith for his starting position.

Michael Sam is another young DE who could push for the starting position. He seems to have developed an array of moves on his pass rush that are similar to Brad Madison's. He is turning into a first class pass rusher.

Young guys Shane Ray and Derrion Thomas have also looked good early on. It will be hard for them to climb the depth chart with the talent ahead of them, but they have bright futures.

Marvin Foster is having a good early camp. He is one of the more athletic defensive tackles and has shown good explosion off the line. He may be the 3rd guy behind Hamilton and Resonno at the moment.

True freshman Brandon Durant had another interception today. Durant was playing third team with Tony Randolph away at a funeral yesterday and looked good again today.

Very impressed with the incoming freshman linebackers. They look like the best yet during the Pinkel era so far.

Kentrel Brothers and Durant have really stood out, but Clarence Green is solid as well.

Speaking of freshman, the Tigers seem to be putting David Johnson in position to play more. He has showed a lot in the first week and is catching the eyes of the staff both at cornerback and now they are inserting him into the mix at kick returns.

Jimmie Hunt looks like he could be the guy at punt returner. He is currently the #2 guy behind T.J. Moe.  With Moe being so valuable as a receiver you don't want to risk him being lost to special teams injury. I also like what Jimmie might bring with his elusiveness at the position.

Practice report coming soon.
