Camp Quick Hitters: Friday Morning Practice

The Missouri Tigers came out on Friday morning and followed up their scrimmage with an intense practice with both sides of the ball competing hard as we share some quick hits from it.

The Missouri Tigers held an intense practice this morning the day after their second scrimmage and looked good on both sides of the ball. Although, the defense was just ferocious again this morning whether it was the first, second or third team. There was a lot of mixing and matching among the players.

Matt White and Jacquies Smith were both out wearing red with ankle injuries. Nothing major and they are expected back soon.

In White's absence both Braylon Webb and Kenronte Walker were the starting safeties and looked really good. Both are big hitters and Webb has a real nose for the ball and if he becomes more adept at catching it could pile up the INTs over his career.

Will Ebner was also out with a concussion and wearing red. In his absence Luke Lambert got more time with the 1st team and did a really nice job on run and pass coverage.

We keep talking about Kentrell Brothers, but he just keeps making plays. It looks like a strong possibility that he plays this year if coaches so choose.

Andrew Wilson is the biggest hitter on the team and continues to light people up.

Trey Hobson lined up with the 1's in the stretch line, but Coach Pinkel was asked if that meant he had moved ahead of Edwin Gaines at the cornerback spot and Pinkel said that EJ is still the starter, but that Hobson was going to play a lot.

Xavier Smith is a young cornerback who continues to help his cause for playing time. He had another strong day.

The defensive line is just fun to watch. Everyday you have different guys along the line step up and be dominant.

Derrion Thomas, while down on the depth chart, is playing lights out and spent a lot of time in the backfield. It's hard to believe when you watch him that Thomas only played one year of high school football and has been out of football a couple of years. It makes you wonder how good the walk-on could be down the road.

James Franklin had another strong day following up the scrimmage. Franklin was strong in the red zone and led the Tigers to 3 TDs down there. Franklin has become very good on the placement of his passes to where only the offensive man has a chance to catch the ball.

Kendial Lawrence ripped off another long run today.

The New Orleans Saints had a scout at practice who appeared to be looking at the defensive and offensive linemen pretty intently.

Coach Pinkel did not really want to talk about the depth chart, but did say that it wasn't set and some more changes would be finalized in time.

This afternoon's practice was cancelled.

A full report will be coming soon.
