Smith Breaks Down Missouri Decision

2012 Florida stand out shooting guard Shawn Smith talks about what the reasons were behind his decision to commit to the Missouri Tigers and how relationships played such a big role

Over the weekend, Frank Haith and the Missouri Tigers received their third known commitment for the 2012 recruiting class, from combo guard Shawn Smith 6'4" 186 Jacksonville (FL). Smith chose Missouri over South Carolina, Kansas State, Florida State, Central Florida, and Cincinnati. He talked about his decision to come to Missouri.

"Really, it came down to relationships," explained Smith. "Of the schools that I was considering, it came down to whoever I had the best relationship with. And, I was ready to get the process over with, and Missouri really stood out on top, relationship-wise. That was really a big thing for me."

When Smith gave the news to Coach Chew, and Coach Haith, he said that they were both very excited. Smith will visit Missouri officially this fall, and he plans to sign with Missouri in November.

Smith, who takes pride in his defense, expects to matriculate to Missouri next June. He will attend a prep school this year, but has yet to select the particular one that he will attend this year. He said that he's looking to play against better competition during his senior year.

Smith has been playing for the Florida Rams. He had been playing primarily as a scoring guard, but he said that this summer, he has improved his ball-handling skills, and has been playing the point. He expects to play both point guard and scoring guard while at Missouri. Smith is looking forward to playing at Missouri.

"I'm really looking forward to coming to Missouri," said Smith. "I can't wait to get back on campus!"
