ShowMeMizzou.com introduced you to Edmond (OK) Santa Fe TE/DE Mike Onuoha 6'7" 230 back in July right before he made an unofficial visit to Missouri to check out the Tigers as a possible destination for college and find out more about the school and football program.
We recently caught up with Onuoha to find out how his season was going and see what the latest was regarding his recruitment and Missouri.
"The season is going well. We are currently 6-1 and moving forward," said Onuoha.
"Right now I am pretty much just playing defensive end since we don't really use the tight end in our offense. But I am doing pretty well. I think I have around 55 tackles and 4 sacks the last time I checked, but that was a while ago," he continued.
Mike said he was enjoying playing defense and still felt that he needed to work on his footwork a little bit to reach his full potential.
I turned the attention to recruiting and specifically Missouri.
"I would say Missouri is recruiting me the hardest," said Onuoha. "I still don't have an offer from them yet, but I am pretty sure one will be coming from them. I talk to Coach Henson more then any other coach and have a pretty good relationship with him. I would like to get up there for an unofficial visit to catch a game, but my schedule is pretty tough to do that right now, so I may just have to go on an official visit. I feel pretty strong about Missouri since they have been with me the longest showing interest. I am definitely gonna get up there."
Back in the summer, Oklahoma was the other school that stood out for Onuoha.
"Oklahoma filled the spot they would have had for me with a I guy from Texas that was at the same camp and me," said Onuoha.
So what other schools are currently in the mix with him?
Mike says that he doesn't have a timeline for making a decision, but that it would likely come sometime after the season.
"I will know when it feels right about making a decision. Right now I am just working my butt off on the field and in the classroom to get better. I just wanna go to a college that I feel comfortable at and can produce at."
Analysis: Mike Onuoha is a unique athlete with good size, height, long arms and can run. Defensively he does a good job using his speed and quickness. He moves well laterally following plays, shedding blocks and making the play. Despite being primarily a basketball player he looks to like the physical play and does a good job getting after the QB.
