Over the past month, there had been intense speculation that Roy Williams and Carolina had climbed into the Kleiza race and could end up persuading the big man to come play at Chapel Hill.
Some recruiting sources had figured the Kleiza recruitment to be a three-team race, with UNC being the leader. According to our sources, it appears unlikely that Kleiza will even take a visit to Chapel Hill, let alone commit to UNC.
Our sources tell us that Kleiza has been diligently recruited by Missouri for the past two years. On his visit to Columbia, he really felt at home, and reportedly got along famously with the existing players on the team, especially Ricky Paulding and Arthur Johnson.
Linas Kleiza is clearly the top, uncommitted big man in the 2003 class, and he would immediately provide toughness, a versatile inside-outside game, and a no-nonsense work ethic to Missouri's low post.
Since he missed the final deadline for signing a letter of intent, he will find scholarship papers already filled out for him, only requiring his signature to make them official.
Obviously, since no LOI exists, Kleiza will not be bound to Missouri until the fall. But that is a formality at this point. It appears the decision has already been made.
Supermizzou wants to be the first to welcome Linas Kleiza to the Missouri family!
