Edmond (OK) Santa Fe TE/DE Mike Onuoha 6'7" 230 has been a prospect the Missouri Tigers have been evaluating and on their radar screen for some time now. We reported on him making an unofficial visit to Columbia back in July.
Michael has been waiting and hoping for a Tiger offer to come his way and Monday that day final arrived as Missouri officialy extended a verbal offer to him.
"I'm pretty excited. I like Mizzou a lot," said Onuoha.
"Coach Henson talked to my coaches and told them that they liked me and offered me, and finally I talked to him and he told me that I had an offer and they wanted me to commit right away," he continued.
While Missouri is his first offer and he is excited to have it, there may be a delay in him making a commitment in the near future.
"My Mom is out of town and won't be back until the 30th of this month," said Onohua. " I think right now she will want to sit down with me and talk things over more then just on the phone. Ultimately, it will be up to me, but I want to talk things over with her."
Michael had an outstanding season playing DE for Santa Fe. While it is possible he could play TE for Missouri if he came there, he told me that Coach Henson told him that it was still up in the air as to which side of the ball he would play on.
"Coach (Henson) said that I would be able to be flexible with my athleticism. That where I would play would be figured out once I arrived there," he said.
And does he have a preference of offense or defense?
"If I could choose I would rather play DE. But really, I will play wherever they play me and work my hardest to do everything they want me to do."
While he is still being recruited by mainly Kansas State too at this point, Onuoha said that Mizzou was clearly out front.
" K-State has been talking to me and wants to schedule me for a visit. I don't know though. I know that I will be visiting Missouri on January 20th and I am highly considering committing to them possibly before that. I have been there and like coach Henson a lot."
