With the move to the SEC the Missouri Tigers are trying to make their presence felt in the recruiting game right out of the gate. New Tiger assistant coach Alex Grinch has been assigned to recruit the state of Georgia and the Atlanta area, and he seems to be getting the attention of some of the prospects late in the 2012 class.
ShowMeMizzou.com has learned that McDonough (GA) Eagles Landing Christian Academy DE prospect Justin Thomason 6'3" 241 (4.6 forty- 325lbs bench max) has received and offer from the Missouri Tigers football program and has them among his final two schools.
"I received my Missouri offer today," said Thomason when we spoke on Wednesday. " I have been hearing from Missouri pretty good for about 3 or 4 weeks, something like that. Coach Grinch and the defensive line coach (Kuligowski) were by my school and talked things over for a long time and offered."
The talented defensive prospect, who recorded 130 tackles, including 26 tackles for loss and 9 sacks with 2 forced fumble and 1 touchdown scored from his defensive end position, plans on making an official visit to Missouri very soon and has the Tigers among his final two schools.
"I will be visiting Missouri either this weekend or next weekend on the 27th. My Mom has something going on, so, it's still up in the air at the moment. I will know in a day or two when it will be. I do know that my final decision will be between Missouri and North Carolina," said Thomason.
He was familiar enough with the program to tell me some of the things that had the Tigers among his final two for his services.
"It's a great school. Great academics. I like the coaching staff. They win games and have been to a bunch of bowl games in a row over a long period of time. I know they are playing in the SEC now and won't have to wait to play there. I also know they are putting people in the NFL. Aldon Smith is a guy I have seen play and know he went to Missouri. He's getting it done."
Thomason said it was simple what he was looking for in the schools he picked.
"A good education and a good football program."
Justin also said that he was hoping to major in sports management and he would make a decision after his visit to Missouri.
ShowMeMizzou.com will keep you updated on his recruitment and decision.
