2013 Linebacker Burkett Gets Offer, Commits

The Missouri Tigers are off to a fast start at their junior day picking up their first and second commitments of the 2013 class. Mid-Mo linebacker talks about getting his offer and choosing the Tigers.

The Missouri Tigers held their junior day today with over 60 prospects attending, and it didn't take long for at least a couple of players to say yes when extended an offer.

ShowMeMizzou.com has learned that Jefferson City (MO) 2013 LB Joey Burkett 6'3" 200 4.61 forty time was offered today and committed to play for the Tigers on the spot.

"I just got done. Mizzou gave me an offer and I accepted," said Burkett in a text to ShowMeMizzou.com. " Coach Pinkel asked to speak to me and my Dad and told me they were gonna make me an offer, and to tell them when I decide, and about an hour later I went and talked to Coach Pinkel and told him my decision. I am really excited!"

Burkett, who was second the Jays in total tackles with 115 in 2012, reminds me of another Missouri Tiger linebacker, Luke Lambert.

"Yeah, the Missouri coaches have said that to me as well," he said. "I think Luke is a great linebacker and it's an honor to be compared to him."

Joey also told me that he grew up a Tiger fan, and is done with the recruiting process that just started.

" I grew up a Tiger fan, so it was an easy decison to have an opportunity like this.My family use to have season tickets, so, we use to go to all the games. Now I get to play for them. It's great. I am solid Mizzou and done with recruiting."

Joey Burkett becomes the first known commitment of the 2013 class for Missouri.
