The University of Missouri has become known for producing quality All-American Tight End products, such Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman, who have spent time in the NFL, and soon to be NFL draft pick Michael Egnew over the past few years. So, it says a lot when the Tigers target specific recruits at that position that they feel capable of following in those footsteps to be able to play the position in the unique way Mizzou uses their Tight Ends.
ShowMeMizzou.com spoke recently with a 2013 TE prospect that Missouri has recently offered that they feel can fill the role that they look for in in their offense, Chardon (OH) Notre Dame Cathedral TE A.J. Branisel 6'4" 225 4.7 forty.
"Missouri offered me last Thursday," said Branisel when asked about the Tigers recent interest in him. "My coach said they had been talking about me for a few weeks, and then he told me last week to call them. I spoke with Coach Hill, and he said that they were looking for my type of style of player at Tight End. A big athletic target that can spread out wide and catch the ball or line up tight and play a more traditional role."
"It was a good conversation," continued Branisel. " It means a lot for Missouri to be my first big school offer. Being in the SEC means a lot and I think it shows that I have the ability to play at schools outside of the MAC."
A.J. is a little familiar with the Tigers, but plans on finding out much more in the coming weeks.
"I've known a little bit about Missouri and I have researched them, but I am planning to take an unofficial visit to them during their spring football in a few weeks and find out a lot more," he said.
The athletic TE prospect caught 35 passes for 536 yards and 6 TDs as a junior.
He described his talents to me and how he would like to have them used at whatever college he decides on.
"I'm a big Tight End that can block and be physical, line up tight and play a more traditional role, but I can also spread out wide and catch the ball and run well with it after the catch. I want to be in a passing offense, and Missouri fits my style."
He would like to have a career coaching football after college.
ShowMeMizzou.com will keep you updated on the recruitment of A.J. Branisel.
